Prof Andre van RijProfessor of Surgery, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand

    Professor Andre van Rij  ONZM, MB ChB, BMedSc, MD, FRACS, FANZCPhlebology is the Ralph Barnett Professor of Surgery at the University of Otago in New Zealand.    He has until recently been Chief of Vascular surgery and remains Director of   Otago Vascular Diagnostics  in the Department of Surgical Sciences.  He has been  Associate Dean of Research in the Dunedin School of Medicine.

    He has published in areas of basic science , hemodynamics,  genetics and clinical studies in venous disease. In addition his work  extends  into the pathology of    aortic disease, aortic aneurysm screening, bariatric surgery,  quality assessment, surgical decision making, as well as ethics of consent.

    In the past he has been President of the New Zealand Association of General Surgery and President of  the  Vascular Society of NZ. He is the current Chancellor of the Australasian College of Phlebology.
